The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) biannually in the months of June and December. The NBE announced the FMGE 2024 December session result on January 19. A total of 44,392 students appeared for FMGE 2024 December session. Out of which, only 13,149 students qualified the exam and 31, 236 were declared fail. The authority has put result of 7 students on hold. The total pass percentage of FMGE 2024 December session is 29.62%. Earlier for the FMGE June 2024 session, a total of 34,608 appeared in the exam. Once the exam is concluded and students await their results, they often search for the total candidates appeared in the FMGE exam to get an estimate of the competition level of the exam. FMGE has a lower passing rate due to its high difficulty level which is also evident from the year-wise FMGE passing rate and country-wise FMGE success rate. Every year, FMGE sees a varying number of candidates attempting the exam. For the FMGE 2024 December session, a total of 13,149 candidates cleared the examination while the FMGE total candidates who appeared for the examination were 44,392.
As the number of candidates qualifying for the exam are very low, this ensures that only those who meet high standards of medical knowledge and competence are allowed to practice medicine in India. The number of registered applicants exceeding several thousand to the qualified candidates highlights the need for thorough preparation and a deep understanding of medical principles.
The pass percentage for the FMGE in India fluctuates between 10% and 25%. FMGE pass percentage in India for the June 2024 session was 20.89%.
